Frequently Asked Questions FAQs page updated 9-16-26 ~ Written by Lucrezia Mangione, LCPC, NCC, BC-TMH, DCEP

Choosing a therapist can bring up a lot of questions.

Some are practical: Do you offer online therapy? Do you accept insurance? What happens in the first session? Others are harder to put into words: Is this the right kind of therapy for me? Do I need to know what kind of help I need before I reach out?

You don't have to have everything figured out.

At Mind Body Well Therapy, PLLC, I provide holistic integrative psychotherapy for adults seeking thoughtful, individualized support. You may also see me use the simpler phrase holistic therapy to describe this whole-person way of working.

These Frequently Asked Questions cover my approach, what therapy is like, practical aspects of care, and how to begin.

What is holistic integrative psychotherapy?

Holistic integrative psychotherapy is psychotherapy that considers you as a whole person rather than focusing only on a symptom or diagnosis.

My clinical work is grounded in evidence-based psychotherapy and guided by an evidence-informed, whole-person approach that considers the interconnectedness of mind, body, heart, spirit, and lived experience.

Integrative refers to the thoughtful use of more than one therapeutic approach. Instead of expecting you to fit a single model, I consider your needs, history, strengths, values, preferences, goals, and clinical circumstances.

The goal isn't to use as many techniques as possible. The goal is to provide care that fits you.

How is this different from traditional talk therapy?

Talking is an important part of psychotherapy, including the work I do. But it does not always have to be the only way we work.

Depending on your needs, therapy may also include attention to emotional patterns, relationships, thoughts, nervous-system responses, bodily experience, mindfulness, or practical coping skills.

That doesn't make integrative psychotherapy better than traditional talk therapy. It simply allows the work to be more flexible.

The therapy adapts to the person, not the other way around.

Who I Work With

What kinds of concerns do you help with?

I work with thoughtful adults experiencing a range of emotional, psychological, relational, and life concerns.

People often reach out because of anxiety, chronic stress, overwhelm, emotional exhaustion, grief, life transitions, trauma-related concerns, difficult patterns, or a growing sense of disconnection from themselves.

I also have particular experience working with highly sensitive adults, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and helping professionals.

Some people come to therapy with one clearly defined concern. Others simply know that something feels off, or that the ways they've been coping aren't working as well as they once did.

You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or a perfect explanation of what is happening.

Do I need to know what kind of therapy I need?

No.

If you've spent much time on therapist websites, you've probably come across long lists of approaches and acronyms. It can start to feel like you're supposed to figure out the treatment before you've even met the therapist.

You don't need to. We can begin with what has been happening, what feels difficult, what matters to you, and what you hope might be different. From there, we can determine a direction together.

What therapy methods might you use?

It doesn't begin with a technique. It begins with you.

Depending on your needs, our work may draw from psychodynamic, person-centered, strengths-based, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, mindfulness-based, and other integrative psychotherapy approaches. When clinically appropriate, I may also incorporate guided imagery, contemplative practices, mind-body skills, energy psychology approaches, journaling, creative expression, and other complementary methods within the scope of psychotherapy.
The approach is intentional rather than random. A technique is useful only when it serves the therapeutic work and makes sense for the person sitting in front of me.

What Therapy Is Like

What happens in the first session?

The first session gives us time to begin understanding what brings you to therapy.
I'll want to hear about what you've been experiencing, what feels most important right now, relevant parts of your history, and what you hope might be different. We'll begin identifying priorities and considering what direction could be useful. You'll also have an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of what it is like to talk with me.

You do not have to tell your entire life story in one appointment. Understanding develops over time.

How will we know what to focus on?

You may come to therapy with one clear concern, or with several things happening at once. We begin with what seems most important or pressing and work together to understand the larger picture.

I often tell clients, you're the expert on you. My role is to listen carefully, understand your experience, notice patterns you may not yet see, and bring clinical perspective and therapeutic approaches that can support the work. Priorities can shift as we learn more or circumstances change.

Therapy, KAP & Neurofeedback

How do I know whether I need therapy, KAP, or neurofeedback?

You don't have to decide this on your own.

Psychotherapy, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and EEG Brain Training/Neurofeedback are distinct services. They may sometimes complement one another, but they are not interchangeable.

Psychotherapy focuses on emotional and psychological concerns through an ongoing therapeutic relationship using clinically appropriate psychotherapy approaches.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) incorporates psychotherapy in connection with ketamine treatment for appropriately screened clients; medical evaluation, prescribing, and medical management of ketamine are provided by a qualified medical prescriber, not by me in my role as a psychotherapist.

EEG Brain Training/Neurofeedback is a form of brain training and is not psychotherapy.
Which approach may be appropriate depends on your needs, goals, history, preferences, clinical circumstances, and, when ketamine is being considered, medical eligibility.

A consultation can help clarify where it makes sense to begin.

Online & In-Person Therapy

These Frequently Asked Questions cover practical details about in-person and online therapy, including office access and where online psychotherapy is available.

Do you offer in-person therapy?

Yes. I provide in-person psychotherapy at Mind Body Well Therapy, PLLC in Oxford, Connecticut, by appointment. You can find location information on the contact page.

Is the office accessible?

The office has designated wheelchair-accessible parking and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. The practice offers a quiet, private setting, although occasional brief background noise from an upstairs warehouse may occur.

If you have a mobility, sensory, communication, or other access need, please contact the practice before scheduling so we can discuss the office environment and whether the practice can meet your access needs.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. I currently provide online psychotherapy to eligible clients located in Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida.

For psychotherapy, where you are physically located at the time of your appointment matters, because therapists must practice within applicable licensing and telehealth requirements.

Connecticut clients may choose in-person or online psychotherapy. Maryland, Virginia, and Florida psychotherapy services are provided online.

Insurance & Fees

The Frequently Asked Questions below address insurance, fees, and payment options, including ways to explore potential out-of-network benefits.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently an in-network behavioral health provider for ConnectiCare and UnitedHealthcare/Optum for eligible psychotherapy plans in Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida.

Having one of these insurance companies does not automatically mean your particular plan covers services with me. Plans vary in their networks, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and behavioral health benefits.

For other insurance companies, Mind Body Well Therapy, PLLC is an out-of-network provider. If your plan includes out-of-network psychotherapy benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement, and superbills may be available for eligible psychotherapy services. Insurance coverage and reimbursement cannot be guaranteed, because your insurance company makes the final determination.

The Insurance page explains these options in more detail.

Check Your Out-Of-Network Benefits with Thrizer

If you have out-of-network benefits, you can use the secure Thrizer tool below to check your insurance plan's potential benefits before deciding whether to move forward.

What are your fees?

Fees vary by service and payment structure. Current basic fees for psychotherapy, KAP, and NeuroEase are available on the Insurance page, along with information about insurance, out-of-network benefits, and payment options.

For eligible psychotherapy services, superbills may be available if you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company. Thrizer may also help eligible clients use out-of-network benefits, and CareCredit is available as a healthcare financing option for those who choose to use it.

I believe it's important to understand the financial aspects of care before you begin. During the consultation and getting-started process, I'll explain the fees and payment options that apply to the care you're considering and answer your questions before you decide whether to move forward.

See Insurance & Fees for current fee and payment information.

Getting Started

Do you offer a consultation before I schedule therapy?

Yes.

A consultation gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, ask practical questions, and consider whether the services and scope of Mind Body Well Therapy, PLLC appear to be a reasonable fit for what you need.

A consultation is not psychotherapy or a full clinical assessment. It's simply a place to begin the conversation. If another therapist, service, or level of care appears more appropriate, I'll tell you.

How do I schedule a consultation or get started?

You can begin through the Contact page, where you'll find the current consultation scheduling and inquiry options.

You don't need to have the right words, a complete understanding of what's wrong, or a clear treatment plan before contacting me. Tell me a little about what you're looking for, and we can determine an appropriate next step from there.

What if I'm still not sure whether this is right for me?

If these Frequently Asked Questions haven't answered everything you're wondering about, that's okay. Deciding to begin therapy and deciding who to work with can take some thought. You don't have to make every decision before contacting me, and reaching out doesn't obligate you to become a client.

A consultation gives us a chance to explore fit and answer your questions. And if we're not the right fit, knowing that early matters too.

Still Have a Question?

If you have a question that isn't answered in these Frequently Asked Questions, you're welcome to ask.

You don't need to know exactly what kind of support you need before reaching out. You simply need a place to start.
