Basic mental health questions, frequently asked, are answered on this page. These questions provide general and prep info related either to holistic psychotherapy and counseling or wellness coaching and other services here at Mind Body Well Therapy.

We realize that there are many types of questions.  The purpose of the page is to provide quick answers to frequently asked questions related to the services offered here.

Specific mental health questions concerning medical conditions should be brought to your medical doctor.  Are you seeing a doctor for a medical condition and need help with the challenges you're facing? Like improving your health behaviors associated with your doctor's medical recommendations? Contact us.

Specific health questions concerning mental health are not addressed on this site because this site is meant for informational purposes only. Mental health questions should be brought directly to a licensed mental health professional like a licensed counselor, licensed social work, advance practice registered nurse, or psychiatrist by contacting them directly for a private discussion. How long is a session?

For both holistic psychotherapy and counseling and wellness coaching, an initial intake and assessment is between 1.25 and 1.5 hours. All sessions thereafter can be in the range of 45 - 60 minutes depending on the service.

What can I expect when I come for a session?

Blue bubbles slightly out of focus

With each session, you can expect a safe place where you can explore what you wish. Sessions are different and unique based on your needs.  During the initial intake and assessment session, time is spent gathering information from you and identifying what you want help with.  Gathering this information continues for several sessions thereafter.  At the beginning of follow up sessions, time is spent checking in and receiving updates about your experiences and progress.

Sessions are typically done sitting down in comfortable chairs for holistic therapy and counseling. Sometimes movement is encouraged to facilitate processing and expression. At the completion of a session, recommendations may be given, referrals are made as appropriate and further options are discussed to support your process.

Crisis Emergency Numbers

Need help now, 24/7 in the U.S.?

All living systems have energy. This energy continually emanates from all life and is in constant interplay with its surroundings. Every human being, animal, plant and living organism is in continuous dialogue because of this fluid and vast sea of energy that we are all made of and that we all live in.

Modern physics and, specifically, emerging studies in the field of quantum physics supports subtle energies and biofield therapy. More information that's detailed on studies can be found at the Institute for Noetic Sciences (IONS), The International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM), Healing Beyond Borders (HBB) also known as Healing Touch International (HTI) and the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP).

Do I need to do anything before, during or after a session?

In preparation for your session allow yourself to be with whatever arises whether you are coming for holistic therapy and counseling session or for a wellness coaching session.  It is typical that once you decide to come and schedule your appointment deeper feelings, thoughts and concerns surrounding your presenting situation(s) arise.  Be as present as you can with it prior to coming.

You'll be sent a reflective worksheet to fill out. This will help you explore more information from your inner world about what is bringing you into therapy.

Ponder what your intention is. An intention is consciously setting a focus point for your continued path towards greater health and well-being. What is your desire for your health? What is it you want?  When you know that answer and it feels right then set that as your focus – setting your intention.

After any session is complete have time to integrate.  Journaling, drawing, and recording your thoughts are good ways to continue to assimilate your experience. Individualized recommendations may be given for you to do at home.

Coming for holistic psychotherapy and counseling?  Your time here offers you a safe place to explore your feelings, thoughts and experiences that can help you grow into a conscious understanding of your present circumstances, gain insight to resolve challenges while you work towards your desired goals.

Your job is to simply be willing to explore.  Your pain, confusion, and heartache are an opportunity to transform you.  Once here, your story, your history, both known and unknown, and your expectations are explored. Being a willing partner brings about your self-discovery and change.

My job is as a therapeutic partner; exploring your inner and outer dialogue, observing any patterns and helping you to translate, understand, integrate and apply what you are learning about yourself to create the change you desire.  This, in turn, can enrich your daily life and living.  It is a process.

If you have further health questions, just ask.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

A doctor’s referral is not needed. That said, I recommend informing your doctor. It is always a good idea to let all the members of your healthcare team, including your doctor, know what work you are receiving to work towards improving your mental health and well being. You may wish to give permission to myself and others on your team to speak and collaborate together in helping you.  For more information about this, contact us.
